Splinting of the Upper Extremity Course
This course is intended for beginner to intermediate clinicians looking to develop their orthotic knowledge and fabrication skills. This course will cover anatomy, physiology, material properties, alternative orthotics, and orthotic fabrication/principles. This course will be a combination of lecture and lab to ensure proficiency in fabricating upper extremity orthotics.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to identify different types of orthotic materials based on properties and handling characteristics.

Participants will be able to identify the difference between dynamic, static progressive, serial static, and static orthotics.

Participants will be able to identify anatomical landmarks, splinting precautions, contraindications, and safety awareness.

With instructor supervision and assistance, participants will demonstrate the ability to fabricate orthotics as outlined in the agenda.

Participants will be able to understand common orthopedic diagnoses and be able to identify an appropriate orthotic as indicated.
